Donation envelope for the Universal Negro Improvement Association

Amy Ashwood (Garvey) was one of the founding members of the UNIA in Jamaica and Marcus Garvey’s first wife. In October 1919, when George Tyler attempted to assassinate Garvey at the UNIA offices is Harlem, Ashwood shielded him and helped to save his life.
